A new professional organisation was added.

Metallurgia

This French metal clay association is for french-speaking metal clay enthusiasts from all over the world including Canada, Togo, Tunisia, Belgium, Lebanon, UK, Germany, and France. They have information about all brands and are aligned with the Art Clay Society.

A new local group was added.

PMC Guild Knoxville, TN

There is a new PMC Guild in the Knoxville, TN area with over 20 active members since our first meeting in June. Our focus is on education and members sharing their expertise with each other. This is an awesome group with lots of talent and skills!

We meet at my shop, White Fox Bead Studio, in Maryville, TN (near Knoxville). The next meeting is Monday, 5pm for social hour, 6pm meeting start time. Please join us!

29th August

UK supplier of craft items including wooden beads, glass beads, Greek clay beads, plastic beads, metal beads, findings, glass paint and enameling supplies including kilns and kiln furniture, enamels, millefiori and copper blanks in a wide variety of shapes and sizes.

28th August

A new supplier was added to the jewelry supply and findings page.

Caverswall Minerals

UK site selling finished Sterling Silver castings, settings and findings to both the craftsman and the trade. They produce a large range of silver and gold jewellery including rings, brooches, pendants, lockets, earrings and bracelets which can be bought set with stones or unset. Unset jewellery is polished and, in the case of rings, sized as required and is ready to set a choice of cabochons or stones, a range of which can also be purchased from them. Stones can be fitted very easily with glue and then just pushed in or, if you are a stone cutter, can be properly fitted and ground in. Also have a range of findings.

Where: Atelier Non!Soesa, Hoogstraat 36A, 5271 WV Sint Michielsgestel (nearby 's-Hertogenbosch), The Netherlands

In this 2-day workshop you will learn different possibilities for combining copper, bronze, and silver clay in a single piece of jewelry. You will make at least two types of pieces: one that combines copper and silver clay, and another combining copper and bronze clay. Among other techniques, you will learn draping, overlay, inlay of copper in bronze and bronze in copper, wraparound, and hot riveting. A good part of the time will be dedicated to post-firing finishing techniques - especially how to achieve a smooth matte finish as well as the appearance of married metals.

A new way of firing Hadars copper and bronze quick fire clay has been added to the copper and bronze clay pages.

Hadar Jacobson - Little Boxes

In her ongoing effort to improve the success of firing and sintering of the base metal clays, Hadar has come up with a way of firing mixed loads of large, small and hollow forms by using fiber paper boxes inside the carbon box. Have a look at this blog entry and give it a try!

Eegee calls itself the home of UK contemporary and handmade crafts. In August 2010, they're in the process of getting this website up and running, so you may get a good deal if you sign up now. Their aim is to connect buyers with independent creators and traders to offer the best in handmade, crafts and supplies. The Jewelry Classroom

Free video tutorials covering silversmithing techniques including a number of tutorials about using a jewelers saw. Also has a useful video about using an acetylene and air torch.

Jeff de Boer

Jeff de Boer is a Calgary-based multi-media artist with an international reputation for producing some of the world's most original and well-crafted works of art. With an emphasis on metal, he is best known for such bodies of work as suits of armour for cats and mice, armour ties and sword-handled briefcases, rocket lamps and pop culture ray guns, and exquisite high art, abstract works called exoforms.
